| Abstract | This paper presents the development and implementation of a method of delimitation of watersheds to identify the occurrence of external processes that can affect the water quality of the Itumbiara Reservoir, located on the border of the states of Minas Gerais and Goiás, Brazil. Elevation data acquired by the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), drainage basins data obtained from the National Water Agency (ANA) and cartographic bases obtained from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) were used in this work. We used the software ArcGIS 9.2 with the extensions and Spatial Analyst and Archydro Tools to automatically delimitation of watershed. The methodological approach that was applied tested the application of three different sizes of windows of pixels (200, 1,000 and 2.000) for the definition of drainage network and to obtain the sub-basins using. The best result was the use of 200 pixels, with a small difference to the basin defined with a manual procedure. |
